A Brief Introduction of
Nanyang Institute of Technology
Located on the south bank of the famous White River in China famous historical and cultural city–Nanyang, NIT enjoys a really scenic and tasteful environment, pleasant weather and luxuriant vegetation. NIT was established in 1987, is an institute of higher education oriented towards industrial technology and applied arts. NIT is the only comprehensive institution on cultivating professional talents in Southwest of Henan Province. NIT now offers 11 departments, 1 mathematics & physics department, 1 adult education school and 1 five-year junior college teaching department, which include 44 undergraduate and junior college courses. The majors cover machinery building and electrical engineering, architecture, biological engineering and chemical engineering, computer science and technology, electrical and electronics engineering, art design, commerce administration, humanities and sociology, and foreign languages. The number of teaching and administration staff is 692, and 398 of them are full-time teacher. At the present time, NIT has enrolled 7,628 full time study students. NIT now covers an area of 1,047 mu with a building area of 295,400 square meters. NIT took initiative of establishing a campus computer network in 1997. Altogether there are 3,500 computers linked to the Internet. In the field of informative construction with computer network as it is, NIT has been developing more quickly than its counterparts. Advanced equipment equipped professional laboratory, complete function multi-media teaching aid facility, the library which obtains a stock volume of half million books, all the above consists the nice teaching circumstances.
With some obvious progress, NIT emphasizes its international cooperation and intercourse. NIT has established friendly and cooperative relationship with Japanese Daita Company Ltd. in 1996. It has donated 36 million Yen in Setting up “NIT Zhong ru kui yi Scholarship”, “Nanyang Chinese and Japanese Culture Exchange Center ” and “ International Exchange Center ”. In 1998, NIT has also undertaken the Sino-US cooperative project of Sustainable Development in Henan(SDH) initiated by IOWA State University . During the fulfillment in Nanyang, both sides signed agreement and establish “Nanyang Pollution and Waste Reduce Service Center ” (PWRSC). In September of 2000, NIT signed the cooperative education agreement with Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand conducting “1+ 3” &”2+ 2” connecting cooperation graduate education.
